Background Studies

Your residency or fellowship appointment at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education is contingent upon successful completion of national and Minnesota background studies.

Backgrounds must be completed online within 48 hours of when you received your initial email from Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.

• National study. The national background study is performed by Verified Credentials Inc. View instructions for completing the national background study.
• Minnesota study. The Minnesota Department of Human Services administers this study. View instructions for completing the Minnesota background study.

Exceptions

There are two exceptions to having to complete the background studies within 48 hours:

• If you don't have a Social Security number, you'll need to wait until you receive a Social Security number before completing the national background study.
• If you don't have a U.S. address, you'll need to wait until you have one before completing the Minnesota background study.
