The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, offers comprehensive in-patient and out-patient services for women.  There are 32 physicians who provide patient care and are actively involved in research and medical education.

The care provided by Mayo Clinic includes:

  • Obstetrics -- expert personalized care for women before, during and after pregnancy 
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine – specialized services for high-risk pregnancies
  • Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility -- treatment of infertility and disorders of the endocrine and reproductive systems
  • Gynecology – care for disorders of the female reproductive track 
  • Gynecologic Surgery -- seven gynecologic oncologists and two urogynecologists who provide highly skilled, state-of-the-art care for women with benign and malignant conditions of the female reproductive and genitourinary tract
  • Minimally-invasive Gynecologic Surgery – two specialists provide state-of-the-art care focusing on endoscopic procedures

Our division performs more than 2,000 procedures annually specific to urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery.  In addition, we perform more than 1,000 hysterectomies per year, half of which are vaginal. 

Mayo Clinic has a state-of-the-art electronic medical record system, which comprehensively integrates patient data including clinical notes, laboratory evaluation, radiographic imaging, etc. 

The teaching faculty working in the Clinic and hospitals are exclusively Mayo Clinic staff.  Therefore, the Mayo patient population is available to provide you with extensive learning opportunities and educational experiences. 

Mentorship
You will be assigned a faculty advisor or mentor who will provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support.  They, along with other staff members, will provide mentorship, especially in the area of research and publications. 

Visiting Professors
Many nationally and internationally known professors visit Mayo Clinic Rochester each year.  They often present lectures and participate in hospital rounds and surgical observation.  You will have the opportunity to interact with these individuals in educational and informal settings.
