Qualifications
The program is open to individuals who wish to enter directly from medical school, as well as those with prior post-medical school experience.
PGY-1 residents entering the Mayo Residency Program will be selected through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

What type of recommendation letters does your program prefer?
It is recommended that you obtain letters from individuals who know you well. A letter specifically related to Obstetrics/Gynecology experience is desirable, but not required. If you have completed a clinical rotation at Mayo, you are encouraged to obtain a letter from an attending faculty.
Are USMLE step 3 exam scores required at the time of application?
No.
Does Mayo require DOs to provide USMLE scores?
No. USMLE scores for DOs are accepted, but not required.
What is the cutoff date for medical school graduation?
It is recommended that applicants have graduated from medical school within the past 10 years.
What is the number of attempts for USMLE examinations?
Mayo encourages applicants who have passed the USMLE examination on their first attempt.
What type of Visas are sponsored?
Mayo sponsors J1 Visas. In rare, exceptional instances, we will sponsor an H-1B Visa.
Do you have international medical graduates in your program?
Yes. At any one time, there are 1 to 3 international medical graduates in our Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program.
Does this program have any special requirements?
Yes. The program requires one year of direct patient care and experience, either in medical school or as a postgraduate experience.
What is the timing of ECFMG certification?
Your ECFMG certification should be obtained by December 31 of the year in which you apply for this residency.
