Program Description
Mayo Clinic offers two types of neuro-oncology fellowships.
The first is a one-year research fellowship funded by a National
Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) T32 Training
Grant. A 24-month continuous commitment is mandatory. Additional
years may be possible based on your results and interests. The intent
of this fellowship is to foster new discovery in an area of neuro-oncology
and to train future brain tumor investigators. The selected candidate
should be oriented toward an academic career in neuro-oncology.
The second is a three-year clinician investigator (CI) fellowship
aligned with the Neuro-Oncology Program of the Mayo Clinic Cancer
Center in Rochester, Minn. The first year is purely clinical. The
second and third years are laboratory-based in “wet” or “dry” labs.
Mayo Clinic provides opportunities for course work in the design
of clinical research studies, statistics, clinical epidemiology,
clinical trials design and conduct. You also will have the opportunity
to participate in clinical research studies of new drug therapies
and will be encouraged to develop your own independent research
projects.
Program History
The Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
was established in 2002 when the program was awarded an NINDS T32
Training Grant. Two fellows are currently in training in this program.
Going forward, it is anticipated that at least two fellows will
complete this program annually.
