Program Description
The Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
provides one year of advanced training in the diagnosis, treatment
and clinical research of patients with immune-mediated disorders
of the central nervous system.
A second year of fellowship may be considered depending on your clinical and research interests and long-term career goals.
This program emphasizes:
- The development of clinical and research skills
pertaining to neuroimmunologic disorders.
- Special emphasis on multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis
optica and related inflammatory demyelinating disorders.
- Opportunities to participate in pilot and definitive
clinical trials and outcomes research.
- Opportunities to participate in basic science
research.
Mayo Clinic provides opportunities for course work in the design
of clinical research studies, statistics, clinical epidemiology,
clinical trials design and conduct, as well as basic graduate immunology
and more advanced courses in immunology.
In addition, there are opportunities for you to actively participate
in basic science research programs pertaining to the mechanisms
of demyelination, remyelination, CNS autoimmunity and genetic epidemiology.
Program History
The Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester
was established in 1995. Since that time, approximately nine fellows
have completed their training in this program. Going forward, it
is anticipated, that one fellow will complete this program annually.
