Critical care medicine specialists provide dedicated, continuous care to critically ill patients who require advanced monitoring and care in the Intensive Care Unit setting. They are specially trained in the care of critically ill patients, work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other specialists in the hospital. Critical care medicine specialists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester manage patients with multisystem organ failure, central nervous system crises, cardiac failure, recent transplantations and other life threatening problems.
Faculty
Each faculty member is committed to patient care, research and education in his or her daily practices. One attending staff physician provides teaching and patient care supervision for each ward team. Our consultants conduct daily bedside teaching rounds and are available 24 hours a day to give advice or assistance.
Advisors and Mentors
You will be assigned a faculty advisor who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. Your advisor also will serve as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
