Program Description
Hematology and medical oncology are among the most dynamic subspecialties of internal medicine. Advances in basic and clinical biomedical research, which will only further evolve in the coming decades, make this fellowship exciting from both the clinician and research perspectives.

The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester trains outstanding specialists in the fields of hematology and oncology who, at the end of four years, will demonstrate clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of hematologic and oncologic diseases through supervised intensive care of inpatients and longitudinal care of outpatients.

Our program combines well-rounded clinical training with opportunities to work with world-class investigators in a collegial environment. The four-year Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester offers:

  • Preparation for a career in a group practice or academic medicine
  • Multidisciplinary approaches to patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders
  • Research options in hematology, oncology or basic science
  • Opportunities to teach Mayo Medical School students, visiting students from other medical schools and internal medicine residents

Applicants with a strong interest in hematology research are encouraged to apply concurrently to the NIH-funded Multidisciplinary Training Program in Experimental Hematology, which provides in-depth training for candidates interested in investigative careers in various areas of hematology.

Accreditation
The training program fulfills the requirements for training as stated by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Certification
You will be eligible to take the American Board of Internal Medicine’s subspecialty examination in hematology/oncology upon completion of the fellowship.
