Clinical Training

Clinical Inflammatory Bowel Disease
The advanced fellow will see patients in the Mayo IBD Clinic with exposure to the wide variety of problems. You will work under the close supervision of Mayo gastroenterologists who have a special interest in IBD. In addition, daily consultations are available with members of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery to evaluate the surgical options for management.

Electives
During the course of the year, you will have the opportunity to spend time in focused areas related to IBD. The specific program will be tailored to your particular interests. Potential areas for training include: colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, colorectal surgery, radiology, gut failure clinic and pediatric GI.

You will participate and present at the bi-weekly Mayo IBD group meeting. In addition, you may attend a variety of weekly gastrointestinal divisional and GI subspecialty conferences.

Research
This program is geared toward the clinical aspects of IBD and a formal research curriculum is not included. However, you will have the opportunity to participate in enrollment and follow-up of patients entered into IBD protocol studies. In addition, you may initiate retrospective and prospective research trials with the mentorship of an IBD group member.
