The Department of Family Medicine is the academic family practice
at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. In the tradition of Mayo Clinic, the
department encompasses the three shields of practice, education
and research. The Department of Family Medicine exists to:
- Provide continuous and comprehensive primary
health care for individuals and families in the community we serve.
- Prepare physicians for a career in family medicine
as comprehensively responsible personal physicians.
- Advance the discipline of family medicine through
continuous improvement and scholarly inquiry.
Faculty
The Family Medicine faculty at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale
includes 20 physicians who also maintain active outpatient practices.
All are American Board of Family Practice certified, with academic
rank ranging from instructor to associate professor. Each faculty
member has completed a family medicine residency. Several of them
have fellowship training in faculty development.
Faculty members are committed to teaching and facilitating the
growth of medical knowledge. You will have direct access to these
individuals throughout your training
Advisors
The graduate education advisory system is designed to provide
residents with comprehensive educational advice and personal support.
As a family medicine resident you will be assigned a faculty advisor
who will serve as a contact point, introducing you to Scottsdale
and the Mayo Clinic system. You will meet with your advisor on a
quarterly basis to review your academic progress and plan for the
future.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year.
They present their work at noon and/or morning lectures and participate
in hospital rounds. Residents are encouraged to take full advantage
of these opportunities.
