FAMILY RESIDENCY OVERVIEW
The three-year Family Medicine Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester offers:
- A comprehensive education emphasizing the management and treatment of common problems encountered by family physicians
- An emphasis on treating the whole patient and his/her family on an ongoing basis
- A supportive environment with a well-rounded faculty
- A balance between the opportunities to develop a solid knowledge base in academic and evidence-based medicine and the skills needed to be an outstanding community physician
Graduate Outcomes
The most important sign of the success of any training program is how its graduates fare. Every graduate of Mayo Clinic's Family Medicine Residency Program has passed the American Board of Family Practice examination and continues to practice in family medicine. Some graduates have pursued academic appointments. One-third of our graduates are practicing in a rural or underserved setting.
Accreditation
The Family Medicine Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Program History
The Family Medicine Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester began training its first resident in 1978. Since then, nearly 200 residents have completed training in our program. Each year, eight residents are welcomed into our residency. |
