Why diversity programs?
Mayo Clinic has a 100-year tradition of valuing diversity. The Minority Medical Student Career Development Programs at Mayo Clinic provide minority medical students with experiences designed to advance their medical education. These include clinical observations and experiences, career development workshops, and opportunities to participate in patient-oriented and clinical research. The programs are designed to interest students in careers in academic medicine. They also help to enhance the diversity of applicants to our visiting clerkship and residency training programs to better meet the needs of an increasingly diverse patient population.
Who should participate?
The College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic considers minority individuals as including, but not limited to, members of the following groups: African American, Mexican American, Mainland Puerto Rican, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander and members of other racial and ethnic groups considered to be underrepresented in medicine and biomedical research.
