Program Description
Mayo Clinic in Rochester offers a three-year Dermatology Residency Program (PGY-2 through PGY-4), which will prepare you for a career in private practice or academic medicine. Your training will include:

  • Inpatient and outpatient dermatology
  • Dermatologic surgery
  • Dermatopathology
  • Immunodermatology
  • Pediatric Dermatology
  • Clinical or laboratory based research
  • Rotations at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. and/or Mayo Clinic in Arizona

The Dermatology Residency offers extensive clinical training in the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the skin and mucous membranes. In addition, you will experience:

  • Thorough preparation for a career in academic dermatology
  • Intensive didactic training
  • The opportunity to conduct clinical and basic laboratory research
  • A patient mix that provides experience with both routine general dermatology cases and unusual skin disorders
  • Strong training in diagnostics

Accreditation
The training program fulfills the requirements for training as stated by the American Board of Dermatology and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Certification
Upon completion of the residency, you will be eligible to take the American Board of Dermatology examination.

Program History
The Dermatology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester began in 1917 and was officially accredited by the ACGME on Nov. 1, 1954. Since that time, more than 435 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that seven residents will complete training in this program annually.
