As
dean of Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education (MSGME), I receive
tremendous satisfaction from my role in working to ensure the education
of skilled, compassionate medical and research professionals who
are vital to the delivery of quality patient care.
I work with a great team of associate deans, faculty and administrators
at all three of Mayo’s campuses to continuously improve and
expand our programs. Our goals are clear:
- To ensure the health-care needs of every patient
are best served, and
- To help each resident and fellow achieve her
or his goal to become a highly competent, well-trained clinician
and/or scientist.
We believe these goals are best achieved in a supportive, positive
environment, where learners are respected for their contributions
as valued members of the health-care team.
In addition, several distinct features set Mayo Clinic apart from
other academic medical centers:
- The focus on the needs of the patient in all
aspects of education, research and patient care
- The importance placed on educating a new generation
of physicians
- The friendly, collegial team atmosphere between
faculty, trainees and other health professionals
- The opportunity to learn and practice medicine
with the best in the world
- The opportunity to conduct research in an environment
where it can be directly translated to patient care
- The excitement of working with others who are
striving to do their best today, and to do even better tomorrow.
As dean of Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, I have been
able to build on the rich educational legacy begun by the Mayo brothers
more than 100 years ago. The residents and fellows at Mayo Clinic
are immersed in this tradition.
If this atmosphere – one that promotes innovation and excellence
– appeals to you, I encourage you to explore our Web site,
to contact us with your questions, and to thoughtfully consider
advancing your training and career through graduate medical education
at Mayo Clinic.
Best regards,
Mark A. Warner, M.D., Dean
