The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology provides centralized
clinical laboratory services for Mayo Clinic in Rochester through
the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Cytogenetics Laboratory and Biochemical
Genetics Laboratory. More than 500,000 laboratory tests are performed
annually in the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory using more than
150 procedures. Specimens are submitted not only from Mayo Clinic
Rochester, Minn., but also from outside sources through Mayo Medical
Laboratories, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., and Mayo Clinic
in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Close collaboration with the clinical departments at Mayo and in
particular the Department of Medical Genetics' Metabolic Clinic
allows the fellow to assess laboratory findings in light of the
complete clinical context.
