Laboratory Medicine and Pathology - Arizona

Description:

Students observe a wide variety of diagnostic procedures in the department and observe, by double microscope, the signout of cases in anatomic pathology in both the hospital and the clinic.

Specific Goals:

  1. Gain a working knowledge of a busy general pathology laboratory.
  2. Become familiar with frozen section diagnoses and anatomic pathology signout in both the hospital and clinic setting.

Activity Outline:

Students observe procedures, diagnostic tests, interpretations and interactions with other specialists as practiced by general pathologists. Students are expected to attend clinical conferences. They also are given reading assignments related to their interests and current cases.

Method of Evaluation:

Students write a short essay on their experience during the clerkship and are evaluated by staff pathologists who have direct knowledge of their performance and activities.
