Clinical Training
 There will be 12 months of clinical training in the Advanced Vascular Medicine Fellowship as follows:

  • The Fellow will Follow the management of inpatients in the hospital and outpatients in the clinical setting with medical problems related to peripheral and cerebral vascular disease and also managing their postoperative care

Conferences
While in the fellowship, the Fellow is expected to attend required educational conferences provided by the Cardiovascular Division, including weekly Cardiovascular Grand Rounds.

Didactic Training
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal clubs and one-on-one instruction are integral parts of this fellowship. Daily noon conferences cover a wide variety of topics.

Research Training
Although the fellowship is primarily a clinical fellowship, the individual is expected to perform clinical research under the direction of supervising faculty.

Call Frequency
The residency call rotation is different for each rotation. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Teaching Opportunities
Opportunities are available for teaching rotating residents and medical students.

Evaluation
The Advanced Vascular Medicine Fellow is evaluated on a quarterly basis with review of written evaluations from all of the key clinical faculty who have had contact with the fellow during the previous quarter.  In addition, the fellow meets with the Cardiovascular Disease Training Program director ona biannual basis.  In these reviews, both clinical skills and academic productivity are emphasized.
