Program Description
If you are interested in advanced training in electrophysiology,
Mayo Clinic offers the option to spend one or two years focusing
on clinical practice and research in that subspecialty. You can
participate in this training in one of two ways:
- You may spend one or two years in electrophysiology
as an elective to finish Mayo's Cardiovascular Diseases Subspecialty
Fellowship Program
- You may take the one-year Electrophysiology Subspecialty
Fellowship as an independent program after you complete at least
three years of accredited cardiovascular diseases training at
another institution
In either case, you will conduct research and gain specific experience
in intensive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and patient management.
For example, you will work with Mayo Clinic physician consultants
to:
- Diagnose and treat patients with radiofrequency
ablation for supraventricular arrhythmias (e.g., AV node re-entry,
WPW, atrial flutter) and ventricular tachycardia
- Implant and follow up on investigational implantable
cardioverter defibrillators
- Learn the operative management of atrial fibrillation,
ventricular tachycardia and accessory pathways
When you complete this training, you will be eligible for the American
Board of Internal Medicine subspecialty examination in cardiac electrophysiology.
