ANESTHESIOLOGY RESIDENCY OVERVIEW

The primary goal of Mayo Clinic's Anesthesiology Residency Program is to provide you with the clinical training, knowledge, skills, resources and experience necessary to become a safe, competent and trusted anesthesiologist.

Our program offers an outstanding clinical anesthesia experience that can be tailored to meet your educational and long-term professional goals. We train leaders in the fields of anesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine who are capable of providing the highest-quality care and advancing our specialty.

The training you will receive is meant to ensure that regardless of whether you pursue medical practice in an academic, community or rural setting, you will have the knowledge and skills required to succeed and earn the respect of your peers and patients.

The three-year program (following one year of internship) offers:

  • An outstanding and comprehensive clinical anesthesia experience, tailored to meet individual goals
  • A diverse patient population
  • Thorough preparation for board certification
  • Extensive didactic training
  • Subspecialty training
  • Numerous clinical and laboratory research opportunities
  • Multi-site elective rotations

Accreditation
The Anesthesiology Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Program History
The Department of Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic has had a successful and highly respected residency training program since 1968, with more than 600 graduates from the program practicing in all 50 states, as well as 10 other countries. Each year, 18 residents enter this exciting residency program.
