Year 1
Your first academic year is 50 weeks, which includes 14 weeks of selective opportunities. You'll begin patient contact early in Year 1. The primary academic focus of the initial five months is on the basic sciences:

- Microscopic Developmental Anatomy
- Gross Anatomy
The organ systems approach is utilized, integrating the concepts of physiology, anatomy and pathology to teach the following systems:

- Hematopoetic
- Musculoskeletal
- Central Nervous
- Renal
- Respiratory
The Year 1 course "Introduction to the Patient" teaches you basic principles of interviewing, taking histories and conducting a physical examination. You'll also become certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support and participate in growth and development courses.
