Does the Mayo Clinic Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) require a secondary application?

No. The MSTP does not have a secondary application. However, you are sent an additional information form to complete and return to our office.

What constitutes a complete application?

A complete application includes the AMCAS application, additional information form, letters of recommendation, ratings sheets and application fee.

How many letters of recommendation are required?

A minimum of three and a maximum of five letters of recommendation are required.

Which recommenders must fill out the Mayo Clinic M.D.-Ph.D. ratings sheet?

Each recommender listed on the additional information form must submit a ratings sheet. Ratings sheets from other institutions may not be substituted for the Mayo Clinic M.D.-Ph.D. ratings sheet.

What are the MCAT requirements?

Applicants must have a current MCAT exam (within three years of matriculation). MCAT scores from 2012, 2013 and 2014 will be accepted for the 2015 admissions cycle.

Are Advanced Placement (AP) credits accepted?

The MSTP accepts AP credits if they are accepted by your degree-granting institution and are applied toward your degree requirements.

Are GRE scores required?

No. GRE scores are not required to apply to the Mayo Clinic MSTP.

Are international students eligible to apply?

No. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada at the time of application. Foreign nationals, regardless of visa status, are currently ineligible for admission.

If I am not selected for the MSTP, will I be considered for the M.D.-only program at Mayo Clinic?

If you are not selected to interview for the MSTP, you may be considered for the M.D.-only program at Mayo Clinic. There is a checkbox at the bottom of the additional information form.
