Application Process

Each program within Mayo Graduate School has a separate application process, with specific application forms, requirements and timelines.

Ph.D. Program

Applications are accepted from Sept. 1 through Dec. 1 for the following academic year. Applicants must submit a personal statement, official transcripts from each college or university attended, at least three letters of recommendation, and a GRE report. Find out more.

Medical Scientist Training Program (M.D.-Ph.D.)

Applicants to the Medical Scientist Training Program must submit an online application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) by Oct. 1 for enrollment in the following academic year. Additional materials, including letters of recommendation and the Mayo M.D.-Ph.D. rating sheet, are due by Oct. 15. Find out more.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

Each year, approximately 120 undergraduate students from around the U.S. come to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to work beside scientists on a broad range of biomedical research questions. A limited number of fellowships also are available at Mayo Clinic campuses in Jacksonville, Fla., and Scottsdale, Ariz.

Applicants must complete an online application by Feb. 1 for admission in this 10-week summer program. Find out more.

Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)

Mayo Graduate School accepts applications to PREP from underrepresented students who are planning to pursue a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. in biomedical science and have attained a bachelor's degree within the past three years or are seniors about to graduate in a biomedical science discipline.

The application deadline is May 1 for applicants planning to begin the following June. Applications received at other times are considered on a space-available basis. Find out more.
