For Recent College Graduates
This program is a unique element of the Mayo Clinic Initiative to Maximize Student Diversity.

Many talented minority students approach college graduation not quite ready to jump into graduate training. Some students discover research late in their college careers and need more research experience to compete for top Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. programs.

The IMSD Postbaccalaureate Research Program is ideal for students who fit these categories.

The Postbaccalaureate Program provides:

  • A stipend of $21,000 per year

  • Support for annual attendance at a national research meeting

  • Eligibility for low-cost Mayo Clinic medical insurance

  • Careful matching of students with mentors according to research and career interests

  • A curriculum that includes special seminars and courses

  • The option to enroll in a limited number of Ph.D.-level graduate courses

  • Guidance on career path decisions and application to graduate and medical schools

  • Assistance in locating suitable housing
