The Biomedical Engineering Program has 40 faculty and laboratories engaged in exciting, modern biomedical engineering research. Biomedical engineering has a rich history at Mayo Clinic with a long-standing tradition for translational research that spans interdisciplinary boundaries and routinely connects the engineering and physical sciences to the biological sciences and clinical practice. The Biomedical Engineering Program offers a wide range of research opportunities from basic science to clinical research. Students are provided the necessary tools to become leaders in the diverse field of biomedical engineering.

The subtracks for the Biomedical Engineering Program are:

  • Biomedical Imaging: image acquisition and analysis using MRI, CT, US, SPECT as well as confocal and atomic force microscopy

  • Physiology: cellular and molecular physiology to the integration of complex physiological systems

  • Molecular Biophysics: structural biology and structure-function relationships

  • Biomechanics: cellular and tissue mechanics and engineering to device and instrumentation design to gait analysis and modeling
