Welcome to the Mayo Clinic Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency. We offer a dynamic training program that will prepare you for a very successful career in pathology, regardless of whether you ultimately choose an academic or a community practice setting.

Our residents have the benefit of training in an integrated department (laboratory medicine and anatomic pathology) with an integrated AP/CP curriculum. Anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine provide access to and experience with a very high volume of material that includes the full spectrum of basic "bread and butter" tests and cases as well as an unparalleled level of exposure to complex subspecialty material and faculty expertise.

In addition, our faculty has committed substantial time and resources to creating a structured curriculum in every subspecialty area of laboratory medicine and pathology. Our program offers a great degree of flexibility in our curriculum, allowing for optimal diversification based on your subspecialty interests and career goals.

We also have a large number of fellowship opportunities to further enhance your training, including programs in:

  • Bone and soft tissue pathology
  • Breast pathology
  • Cardiovascular pathology
  • Cellular therapy (starting 2018-2019)

Graduates of our Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency are highly competitive and sought after for both fellowship and job opportunities. We currently have about a 50:50 mix of graduates from our program who are working in academic versus community practice positions, which is further testament to our balanced and flexible curriculum.

The outstanding reputation of Mayo Clinic is evident in all aspects of the numerous residencies and fellowships offered here. The atmosphere is both professional and collegial. We also benefit substantially from a teamwork mentality embedded in our patient-centered culture as well as outstanding levels of support from allied health staff in our laboratory and pathology practice.

In short, we provide a unique training environment powered by exceptional people and incomparable resources. Thank you for your interest in our program.

Enthusiastically yours,
