Program history

The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship was founded in 2002 by a collaborative effort of dedicated physicians at Mayo Clinic in Florida. It accepted its first fellow that same year and has graduated one fellow a year without interruption since that time.

The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is located at Mayo Clinic in Florida, which is fewer than 3 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The idyllic weather and location offer the fellow a high quality of life at a remarkably affordable price. Many previous fellows have lived within walking distance of the beach at a fraction of the cost of living in a larger urban setting.

The high quality of life, low cost of living, and varied social, cultural and outdoor-related opportunities is a perfect complement to the comprehensive nature of the sports medicine fellowship.
