Rochester, Minnesota, has many affordable housing options, including single-family and multifamily homes and apartment rentals. Housing costs vary depending on the accommodations.

Many apartments and homes are located within walking distance to the Mayo Clinic campus and downtown amenities, as well as along city bus routes. If you live outside of the downtown Rochester area, Rochester Public Transit operates dozens of city bus routes, making it easy to commute to Mayo.

For students and trainees with patient care responsibilities, the size of the city also makes taking call from home a viable option in some situations. Students often share apartments, reducing their rent.

Short-term housing

The Kahler Grand Hotel offers short-term housing (no longer than six months) with dormitory-style rooms in its student housing section. The Kahler is located in downtown Rochester in close proximity to many Mayo Clinic buildings.

To request reservations at the Kahler Grand Hotel, call 800-533-1655 or 507-282-2581. Indicate that you are a student or trainee in a Mayo education program when making reservations to receive the student room rate.
