As a prospective student, we invite you to visit the Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine, Office for Diversity for an overview of Mayo policies and the services provided to learners with disabilities. We suggest you coordinate this visit with a tour of the campus and an information session.
The Office for Diversity does not play a role in the admissions process; and visiting us does not affect your application. Students with disabilities follow the same process and are reviewed in the same manner as other applicants. The visit is simply an opportunity for you to learn about the services we offer for students with disabilities.
Disclosure of disabilities
Disclosure of a disability is a personal decision and a prospective student is not obligated to self-identify prior to admission. Mayo Graduate School does a holistic review that looks at your achievements within your personal context.
Although you are not required to disclose your disability, it may be helpful to do so if it explains other information in your application. For example, a student whose grades dropped temporarily due to a flare-up of a medical condition may wish to explain those circumstances.
Specific accommodations appropriate for each student are determined after admission to Mayo Graduate School.
As soon as possible after acceptance, you should contact the Office for Diversity. Because accommodations require advanced planning, early identification of a student's needs helps ensure arrangements and accommodations are made in a timely manner.
You should not send reports such as a medical, psychological, psychiatric or psycho- educational evaluation directly to the Office of Admissions; or any other Mayo Clinic office.
Professional documentation should only be provided to the Office for Diversity after admission to Mayo Graduate School. We ask you to submit this documentation shortly after you are accepted to graduate school.
Mayo Clinic operates a free transit system on campus. The main shuttle traverses the campus year-round, Monday through Friday (except Mayo Clinic holidays). All buses are wheelchair accessible and have bike racks.
