Mayo Health System Practice-Based Research Network Holds Winter Conference

The Mayo Health System Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) hosted its Winter Conference on February 19-20. Attendees from across Mayo Health System (MHS) and Mayo Clinic primary care areas discussed the topic of comparative effectiveness research and strategies for research in a "real-world" setting.

"What we're trying to do in the Mayo Health System PBRN is engage physicians and other health care providers in the conduct of research that is important to their patients, their practices and their communities," says Lisa Schrader, coordinator of the PBRN.

The program featured plenary speaker Lucy Savitz, Ph.D, senior scientist at the Intermountain Health Care Institute for Health Care Delivery Research. Dr. Savitz's talk was titled "Why Comparative Effectiveness Research is Important to Practice-Based Research." In addition, speakers from Mayo Clinic and Mayo Health System presented on the topic of comparative effectiveness research, how it relates to practices and resources available.

Participants were able to network with others interested in conducting and supporting research throughout MHS, Mayo Clinic primary care areas and other practice-based research networks; and participate in educational sessions on fundamental aspects of designing and conducting research.

The Mayo Health System PBRN is a collaboration between Mayo Health System and the Mayo Clinic Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA), integrating research with clinical practice to advance the science of health care delivery.

Presentations from the conference are available on the Mayo intranet (requires that you be logged in to the Mayo network). See right-hand sidebar.
