Apply by Aug. 23 for Scholarly Opportunity Award

The Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA) is accepting applications for the 2010 intramural Scholarly Opportunity Award. Funding of up to $30,000 in direct costs per year for two years, plus up to 10 percent Category I time (research time) if justified, is available. The application deadline is Monday, Aug. 23, with funding to begin Dec. 1.

Eligible for this award are consultants, senior associate consultants and associate consultants with clinical appointments who do not already have significant research support (less than 20 percent Category I research time) from Mayo Clinic or extramural sources. The awards will be distributed across the three Mayo campuses — Rochester, Florida and Arizona — in proportion to the full-time equivalent (FTE) at each site.

The goal of this program is to facilitate research among clinicians, career growth and, ideally, future extramural funding. The CTSA encourages a wide variety of projects, but all topics must be addressed in a scientific manner and should result in a publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Projects should have a high degree of innovation and significance, and may address a broad range of clinical, translational, community-based or educational research topics at Mayo Clinic.
