Statistics
The Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) Resource in the Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA), in collaboration with CTSA Education Resources, has developed innovative professional development courses for Mayo Clinic staff called STAT: Statistical Techniques Amicably Taught.
Rickey E. Carter, Ph.D., of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., teaches all courses, which take place the second Tuesday of every month. Dr. Carter is also director of the BERD Resource.
The goal of the STAT series is to teach core statistical concepts in an applied, example-driven format so that clinicians and researchers can advance their understanding of statistics with minimal disruption to their practices and research commitments.
Each class in the series is designed to stand alone, which means researchers may select only the statistical topics most applicable to their own research needs. No reference materials are required to participate in STATs courses.
Mayo staff members not able to attend in person can watch a live webcast, which can be accessed via the Mayo intranet about five minutes before each course begins.
CME: College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, designates this educational activity for a maximum of one AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.

STAT: Research Protocols — Guide to success
October 9, 2012
Scientific advances are based on reproducible science. At the heart of reproducible science is the research protocol. In this workshop, guidelines for protocol preparation consistent with regulatory requirements and best practices will be discussed. Distinctions will be drawn to differentiate a research protocol from a grant application. Recommendations on the importance for specific and measurable outcome measures will be made in the context of mandatory reporting requirements (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov results reporting). Institutional resources that can assist investigators with protocol preparation will be highlighted.
