Activities
The Mayo Clinic Health System Practice-Based Research Network (MCHS PBRN) engages in research that aims to directly improve care for patients, populations and communities. Examples of types of research:
- Observational studies
- Practice-guideline development research
- Dissemination, implementation and diffusion research
- Outcomes research in primary care and community-based health care settings
Priority for MCHS PBRN resources will be given to projects that reach a broad audience and focus on health care at a community or population level. Examples of recent research topics:
- Asthma
- Use of decision aids in diabetes care
- Hypotension in the elderly
- Use of medications at the end of life
The MCHS PBRN is currently developing these ideas:
- Mindfulness-based stress-reduction training
- Community health workers for diabetes care in Hispanic populations
- A pilot study assessing the 30-day readmission rate in patients at risk of dementia
- Implementation and evaluation of a diabetes peer-mentoring group
The MCHS PBRN does not conduct phase I, II or III evaluations of pharmacological agents or devices, basic science, or discovery research.
