Thursday, August 25, 2011
Phillips Hall, Siebens Building, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Schedule
5:30-6:00 p.m.Social hour, refreshments, and exhibits
6:00-7:00 p.m.Presentation by James Cerhan, M.D., Ph.D., Principal Investigator, Mayo Clinic Biobank
Mayo Clinic Biobank Panel Discussion, facilitated by Stephen Thibodeau, Ph.D.

Join us as we celebrate with the Mayo Clinic Biobank as it reaches its goal of enrolling 20,000 Mayo Clinic patients by the end of the year.

The Mayo Clinic Biobank is a collection of samples (such as blood) and health information donated by volunteers. Unlike many biobanks already in existence at Mayo Clinic and elsewhere, the Mayo Clinic Biobank is not focused on any particular disease. Rather, this biobank collects samples and health information on patients and volunteers regardless of their health history. Once you become a participant in the Mayo Clinic Biobank, you become part of ongoing health research conducted at Mayo Clinic. Recruitment began in April 2009.

This event is sponsored by the Mayo Clinic Center for Translational Science Activities. The CTSA facilitated a formal process with Olmsted County residents to learn community values and priorities, which was used to determine collection and guide data usage procedures for the Mayo Clinic Biobank. CTSA staff also manages a community advisory board that assists with ongoing operations.
