Research Subject Advocate

Participating in research is a choice, not an obligation. Research differs from clinical care. Research volunteers should ask questions and understand the research before participating.

When you consider becoming a research volunteer, or if you are a research volunteer with questions or concerns, it is important to talk with your research study team, your physician and/or other health care providers.

If you have unanswered questions, concerns or ideas for improving research practices, please contact the Research Subject Advocate or 507-266-9372.

The Research Subject Advocate is independent of the research team, and works closely with other groups responsible for protecting research subjects, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB reviews and approves all clinical research conducted at Mayo Clinic, and IRB staff members are also available to address your concerns at 507-266-4000 or 866-273-4681 (toll-free).
