Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Apply advanced management of chest tubes and pleural fluid collections
  • Discuss the emerging role of simulation in resident and board certified physician training and opportunities for training and certification
  • Review management of the contralateral breast in the setting of newly diagnosed breast cancer
  • Utilize short suture technique to close laparotomy incision, and lower incisional hernia rates from 18 percent to 5 percent
  • Review evidence-based recommendations for safe placement of central venous catheters
  • Determine appropriate surgical decision-making in patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes
