Course Description
The primary goal for this conference is to demonstrate meaningful improvements to enhance the effectiveness of health care practices not widely used in the health care industry today.
Increasing demand for new knowledge and skills, adoption of new standards to improve patient outcomes, and translation of cutting edge research into effective patient care require that health care professionals enhance their current understanding and knowledge of System Engineering and Operations Research methods. We intend to provide participants with awareness and basic knowledge of these methods and their potential application in improving health care operations.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Interpret a statistical model of disease progression.
- Identify bottlenecks in patient access and scheduling.
- Assess Optimal staffing levels to meet patient care needs.
- Develop a cost-effectiveness model for a new clinical technology.
- Describe a model for patient-specific therapy optimization.
- Identify the resources necessary to adopt use of SE/OR tools in practice.
- Assess knowledge of colleagues and educational tools to introduce SE/OR into their practice.

Intended Audience
The target audience for this conference includes physicians, administrators and managers, allied health providers, health care systems engineers, operations research professionals, and SE/OR academics.
Credit
Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine, designates this educational activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Other Health Care Professionals
A certificate of attendance will be provided to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.
