The Advanced Radiology Life Support Course (ARLS) is designed to focus on the unique, life-threatening emergencies that occur within a radiology department. It is designed to teach prompt recognition and treatment of contrast reactions, management of the sedated patient, the proper management of an airway in an emergency situation and basic concepts of advanced life support. This course is fashioned after the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course that has been successful in teaching physicians, nurses and allied health personnel patient management during cardiac arrest. This course will offer the 2005 American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) recertification training materials. The ARLS, sedation and BLS training materials included in this course were used to train physicians, nurses, and allied health personnel at the Mayo Clinic prior to a Joint Commission site visit. This training program may help your department for a similar evaluation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a general self-assessment module (SAM) presented during the course. The SAM has been designed to meet the standards of the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
