This course provides practicing radiologists, residents and fellows-in-training with a review of state-of-the-art imaging techniques. In addition, course participants have the opportunity to complete neuroradiology, thoracic radiology, and abdominal imaging self-assessment modules (pending approval by the American Board of Radiology). This course is designed to provide the sonographer with a practical review of the current uses and limitations of two-dimensional echocardiography, Doppler and color flow imaging in the assessment of adult myocardial and valvular disease. Recent advances in the field of echocardiography including the assessment of systolic and diastolic function, quantitative Doppler, and stress echocardiography will be presented. It includes management of the sedated patient and the proper management of an airway in an emergency situation. The administration of contrast in patients with renal insufficiency, including contrast induced nephropathy and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis is discussed. Basic concepts of advanced life support are also reviewed.
