Applied Quality Essentials session is a group learning activity. The faculty include Mayo Clinic physicians who have developed expertise in quality and health care improvement. They are joined by Mayo Clinic health systems engineering analysts. The 4-hour session course provides knowledge in quality improvement concepts and methods. Through interactive and case-based activities, faculty guide learners through the application of basic quality tools such as Pareto, control charts, and cause and effect diagrams. Quality improvement strategies, such as Lean and Six Sigma are also discussed. Content is designed to showcase process improvement capability, as well as, its applicability to health care. Additionally, the session describes how to actively participate in a quality improvement project; and identify, measure, and prioritize opportunities for improvement. There are no prerequisites for this course. Please note that this session provides an e-syllabus only. Following the 4-hour session, participants that have paid the additional $25 Post-test fee, will be sent an e-mail with a link to complete an optional 25-multiple choice question Maintenance of Certification Part II self-assessment test approved for ABIM, ABP, ABPath, ABPMR, ABR, and ABS. Self-assessments are sent to the email address noted in your registration profile. Participants must receive 80% correct to receive credit. If unsuccessful on Test A, then Test B will appear as a second chance to pass with 80% correct. If 80% is not achieved on Test A or Test B, credit cannot be granted. A report with selected answers, the correct answers, and recommended literature resources for each question is provided.
