Mini Fellowship in Primary Pediatric Mental Health

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Correctly identify and differentiate among pediatric behavioral health problems
  • Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including: a) selecting medications for individual patients; b) initiating and tapering dosages; c) monitoring improvements; and d) identifying and minimizing medication side effects
  • Create and implement effective treatment plans by a) identifying and mobilizing local psychotherapy resources; b) forming effective treatment teams with family members, school personnel, and mental health professionals; and c) utilizing online resources
  • Employ knowledge of proper medical coding for billing
  • Discern appropriate evidence-based practices, such as CBT for intervention in place of or in combination with medication
  • Address families’ challenging questions, including concerns about medications, side effects, developmental challenges, and clinical course of mental health problems
