This one-day workshop is co-presented by John G. Gunderson, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for the Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, McLean Hospital; and Brian A. Palmer, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Mayo Clinic. The course offers training in clinical management of borderline personality disorder, and will teach psychiatrists and other clinicians what they need to know to become competent providers who can derive satisfaction from treating these patients. Participants will: Apply techniques learned to better inform borderline patients and their families about the disorder's etiology, favorable prognosis, and good response to treatment; Describe behavioral symptoms, including anger, devaluation, and self-injury, as reflective of the patient's core interpersonal hypersensitivity; Employ both primary and secondary targets when considering medications for comorbid disorders; Engage borderline patients as collaborators in their treatment.
