Microvascular Surgery

This intensive, hands-on surgical training program is designed for residents and fellows in surgery programs requiring the use of microvascular surgery. The week-long curriculum is offered eight times in 2008, and utilizes demonstrations, skills practice and lecture components in the implementation of microvascular surgical techniques.

18th Annual Mayo Clinic Symposium on Sports Medicine
November 14 - 15, 2008
Symposium Description
This two-day course is designed to provide the latest diagnostic and treatment
strategies for patients with sports and musculoskeletal injuries. The format of
this program is case oriented, providing an integrated approach to the injured athlete.
The use of an audience response system (ARS), didactic lectures, and live instruction in examination techniques, joint anatomy, and arthroscopy are used to create an interactive and dynamic learning format.
This years mini-symposium focuses on ankle injuries. Live demonstrations
of ankle examination, anatomy, and arthroscopy will occur. Additional
mini-symposium topics include trauma and overuse syndromes, radiographic
evaluation, and ultrasound guided injections for the ankle.
Other sessions include:
Decision making in sports medicine
Athletic eye and dental injuries
Complex knee trauma in the field of play
Meniscal tears
Cardiovascular conditions in athletes
Physeal injuries in pediatric athletes
Hand and wrist injuries
Use of performance enhancing drugs in sports
In addition, Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center staff, including orthopedic
surgeons, physiatrists, physical therapists, sports psychologists, and athletic trainers will present the latest clinical and research findings related to the treatment of active populations.
