The 12th Annual Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Update is a unique four-day course offering sophisticated internists, primary care physicians, family practitioners and subspecialists a practical update on a variety of subspecialty topics. Prehospital Cardiovascular, Stroke and Critical Care Updates: A Quarterly Symposium
October 1, 2009
This quarterly symposium, entitled Prehospital Cardiovascular, Stroke and Critical Care Updates is a one-day intensive program designed to provide current EMS case studies of STEMI, stroke, resuscitation, special topics and infrequent skills/calls. The program, intended for paramedics, is a forum for providers of all levels to interact and provide a medium for strengthening the continuous quality improvement (CQI) process. The course will involve six different sessions throughout the day, including lecture, skills and observation. The content of these sessions apply towards mandatory and flexible core content. Each session will be held on Mayo Clinic Hospital Campus and the course confirmation email will denote actual location on campus. Registration will begin at 9:30 AM, session will begin at 10:00 AM, and adjournment at 4:30 PM. Registration fee is $60.

Biological Frontiers of Alcohol Addiction
October 2, 2009
This course will offer a new biological model for the treatment of addiction. Topics will incorporate new research on the biological basis for genomic subtypes of addiction. Emphasis will be on the rapid translation of basic science to the clinic, strategies for pharmacotherapy, and individualized approaches to the treatment of addictions with comorbid psychiatric diagnoses. Outcomes based research using clinical electronic databases to enhance follow-up will also be discussed as well as the bioethics and history of the concept of addiction as an illness.
