Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe ethical foundations of appropriate ICU care.
  • Describe the critical elements of effective critical care provider-family communication.
  • Identify practical applications of communication and utilization of palliative care to prevent critical care "futility" issues.
  • Differentiate the two accepted pathways to organ donation.
  • Articulate ethical issues particular to Pediatric ICU.
  • Discuss issues of justice that arise in critical care practice.
