The 19th Annual Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Conference offers a range of topics, including care of patients with mental illness, issues specific to women, and the physiological mechanisms and clinical correlations of smoking and pain. In addition to an update on the risks and benefits of using FDA-approved, non-nicotine medications for treating tobacco dependence, we also offer a presentation about “e-cigarettes” and some of the myths and controversy surrounding their use. On the morning of Wed., May 23, we offer two optional workshops designed primarily for tobacco treatment specialists, counselors and other allied health professionals. One focuses on the treatments offered by the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center; the other focuses on utilizing wellness coaching concepts when treating tobacco use and dependence. Additional information about these workshops is provided in our brochure. Enrollment is limited to 35 participants for each workshop and pre-registration is required.
