Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Review important topics in nephrology, hypertension, dialysis, and transplantation
- Evaluate advances in the field and test their knowledge
- Apply new clinical pearls to practice
- Diagnose challenging renal pathology cases
- Debate management strategies for various kidney diseases with featured experts and colleagues
Nursing session:
- Review the significance of Type 2 diabetes in the renal failure patient population
- Identify how upcoming Medicare reimbursement changes in the CMS Dialysis Bundle will affect care of the nephrology patient
- Discuss the role of palliative care in the management of nephrology patients
- Recognize the importance of humor to improve workplace morale
Bedside Ultrasonography Workshop:
- Review the basic principles of ultrasonography
- Operate an ultrasound machine
- Perform ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder as well as large vessels and lungs to evaluate fluid status
- Recognize common pathology detected by ultrasound examination
- Review and apply the principles of central line placement
ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules session:
- Complete two Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge modules, worth 10 points each toward the ABIM Maintenance of Certification
