The Ronald L. Linscheid, M.D. and James H. Dobyns, M.D. Memorial Disorders of the Wrist Course will be held May 24-26, 2013, with a Pre-Conference Laboratory Workshop preceding the course on Thursday, May 23, 2013. This course is designed for orthopedic and plastic surgeons with a significant hand practice and covers the spectrum of disorders of the wrist and distal radioulnar joint. The format will be case-oriented, covering topics in bony and soft tissue trauma, degenerative disease, and inflammatory arthritis, to name a few. Videotaped surgery clips and cadaveric surgical dissection will be used to demonstrate complicated surgical procedures. The course will begin with a review of normal wrist anatomy and mechanics, including examination maneuvers, imaging modalities and surgical exposures. The pertinent features of each wrist disorder will then be highlighted, followed by detailed descriptions of treatment techniques and outcomes. Case examples will be presented prior to each didactic session, followed by open discussion. Breakout sessions will provide more in-depth coverage of specific wrist topics and provide updates on advances in arthroscopy and arthroplasty from recognized experts in the field. Aeschi West: Basic Principles in Working with Suicidal Patients” will be the inaugural theme of a Mayo Clinic-sponsored three-day conference in Vail, Colorado, May 30-June 1, 2013. Effective May 21, 2014, all health care professionals who perform physical examinations and issue medical certificates for CMV drivers will be required to complete accredited certification training and pass an examination. This interactive course will provide the essential core administrative and clinical knowledge necessary to complete the required examination mandated by the FMCSA. This course will review certain subspecialty diseases and conditions encountered while performing CMV examinations, utilizing a case-based interactive approach focused on efficiently addressing complex clinical issues. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the physical demands associated with operating a large commercial vehicle with a semi-trailer at the course site. This decision was made to avoid any interference with the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery meeting held in Chicago July of 2013. The Mayo Clinic Chang Gung symposium has a Cadaver dissection lab in addition to lectures focused on general reconstruction, reconstructive microsurgery as well as craniofacial surgery. However, despite differences between the world society meeting and the Mayo Clinic Chang Gung Symposium, one fact remains common, both attract a significant international group, both faculty and attendees. In order to not interfere with the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery meeting, we have decided to have the next Mayo Clinic Chang Gung Symposium in Reconstructive Surgery in 2014.
