Mayo CME Consensus Conference Proceedings

In the 2007 AHRQ Report on “The Effectiveness of CME,” Marinopoulos et al. voiced a strategy to help advance research on CME stating, “leaders in medical education could develop a national agenda on what is needed to improve the effectiveness of CME.

On September 24–26, 2008, an invitational Mayo CME Consensus Conference was held at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, co–sponsored by the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME), the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and the Mayo Clinic. The purpose was "To develop a consensus on an agenda for the evolution of research and strategic management of CME that will positively impact on the integrity and effectiveness of the whole CME enterprise."

The proceedings of that meeting have been prepared and are available for review. The proceedings outline the format and content of the meeting, provide highlights of the discussions, and review recommendations and next steps that attendees identified as priorities to help meet the call set forth through the AHRQ Report.
