Echocardiography in the Nation's Capital: Focus for the Sonographer

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Correlate the gross and echo pathology of valvular heart disease
  • Apply Doppler principles and hemodynamics to the systematic assessment of prosthetic valves
  • Develop an integrated approach to the assessment of valvular stenosis and regurgitation severity
  • Demonstrate current and novel two-dimensional and Doppler methods to assess left and right ventricular systolic function
  • Utilize the proper technique for the assessment of diastolic filling of the heart and identify diastolic filling patterns found in various cardiac disorders
  • Recognize pathology and echocardiographic findings of myocardial infarction and its mechanical complications
  • Identify the two-dimensional and Doppler findings of pericardial disease
  • Compare 2-D/Doppler features of various cardiomyopathies
  • Optimize stress echo imaging and use the information to formulate a prognosis
