Contemporary Management of Arrhythmia: Practice-Based Approaches

Up-to-date diagnostic techniques and contemporary treatment approaches for atrial fibrillation, syncope, and sudden cardiac death are presented by Drs. Bernard Gersh and Win-Kuang Shen. In addition, a final presentation will look to the not-too-distant future by Dr. Samuel Asirvatham in the segment on Emerging Treatment Options for Arrhythmias. The focus of these sessions was developed and presented by Mayo Clinic cardiologists and will be practical management based on established guidelines and a present understanding of pathophysiology.

35th Annual Cardiovascular Conference at Snowbird

Mayo Clinic Interactive Surgery Symposium

    Arrhythmias & the Heart
    February 22 - 25, 2010

    The Arrhythmias & the Heart symposium will explore approaches to the diagnosis, management and prevention of common rhythm disorders including mini-symposiums on atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. In addition, one day will be devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with congestive heart failure and the associated arrhythmias. Mayo Clinic and guest faculty will share "pearls" to aid in the evaluation and assessment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias. Patient management case sessions and an audience interaction system allowing attendees to respond to questions will be used throughout the conference to enhance learning.     17th Annual Echocardiographic Workshop on 2-D and Doppler Echocardiography at Vail
    March 7 - 11, 2010

    This program will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art 2-D, Doppler and transesophageal echocardiography with a strong emphasis on newer and more rapidly changing areas. The topics to be covered include diastology, ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, 3-D echo, application of TEE in clinical practice, cardiomyopathy, and resynchronization in heart failure. The role of echo relative to the newer imaging modalities will be discussed. There are also afternoon workshops on transesophageal echo, hemodynamics, and stress echo. The final workshop will include a series of clinical cases which will focus on integrating various imaging modalities to provide the highest quality of patient care. The course is designed for the clinician and sonographer who are actively involved in adult echocardiography and wish to gain additional practical experience in these specific areas. Daily reading sessions will provide the opportunity to interpret case studies and to compare and discuss diagnoses with the faculty. An integrated format combining theory and practice will be utilized. In the morning sessions, a traditional lecture series will present state-of-the-art information on selected topics. Application of the techniques to clinical practice will be emphasized. Lectures covering pertinent general cardiology topics, such as appropriateness criteria, will also be provided. In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to apply the lecture material in a workshop environment. A large number of cases will be presented, analyzed and discussed. Each afternoon, attendees will be able to participate in reading sessions, covering either transesophageal echo, stress echo, and hemodynamics. More information regarding:

    The 24th Annual Echocardiographic Symposium at Vail. New Technologies, Live Scanning, and Clinical Decision Making

    This conference is specifically designed for adult cardiovascular specialists, internists, anesthesiologists, critical care physicians, surgeons, and sonographers interested in the clinical application of echocardiography.     Mayo Electrophysiology Review Course for Electrophysiology Boards and recertification will provide the cardiologist and electrophysiologist with a comprehensive overview of all aspects of cardiovascular electrophysiology. Well-known experts in each field will give in-depth didactics on state-of-the-art subjects in electrophysiology and device therpay. Each lecture will be followed by or will include multiple question and answer session with an instantaneous electronic response system.
