This course is intended for cardiologists, cardiovascular fellows and general internists.
Course Description
Mayo Cardiovascular Review Course for Cardiology Boards and Recertification will provide the internist and cardiologist with an overview of all aspects of cardiovascular medicine. Well-known experts in each field will give in-depth didactics on state-of-the-art subjects in cardiovascular medicine. Each lecture will be followed by a multiple question and answer session with an on-line computer-response system. Although this course is designed specifically to prepare the cardiovascular specialist for the Cardiovascular Boards, it will also provide the internist or practicing cardiologist with an update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.
There will be special sessions for both those taking the CV Board Certification Examination, including lectures on board-taking hints, pharmacology, statistics, cardiovascular hemodynamics and molecular biology. There will be a special session focused on ECG and Image Coding.
For those who are undergoing re-certification, a special session will be held of which the ABIM knowledge modules will be presented in an interactive educational format.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Interpret EKG and EP tracings
- Evaluate the patient with adult congenital heart disease
- Interpret echocardiographic tracings
- Analyze complex hemodynamic situations
- Diagnose and treat the patient with acute coronary symptoms
- Evaluate the patient with heart failure
Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course.
Course Registration Fee
Cardiovascular Board Review Course tuition is $995.00 for physicians and $750 for non-physicians. Daily tuition is available at $350 for one day and $250 for each additional day for those unable to attend the entire course. The Cardiovascular Board Review has sold out in the past. Please note the early-bird registration deadline is August 26, 2008. After this date, the fee will increase by $75.00 for CVBR, ICBR and EPBR and $25.00 for the Echo Focus Session.
Meet the Experts
Course participants will have opportunities to network with “experts” from the Mayo Clinic cardiology specialty practices and clinics, including surgeons. These physicians will be available at scheduled times for case discussions and specific patient questions. A schedule will be posted in the Mayo Civic Center North Lobby.
Question and Answer Sessions
This review course will incorporate the use of an instantaneous audience response system (ARS) which simulates the board examination. Speakers will present multiple choice questions to the audience. Participant responses will be gathered via the ARS and will be shown on the screen at the front of the room. Responses will indicate what percentage of participants answered correctly and indicate topic areas needing further discussion or review.
Echocardiography Focus Session
The Focus Session onEchocardiography is a full-day session running concurrently with the Mayo CV Board Review Course. The session is geared towards cardiology fellows and practicing cardiologists with basic knowledge of Echocardiography. The session will be entirely based on echocardiography cases and cover the following areas: Doppler hemodynamics, evaluation of systolic and diastolic function, coronary artery disease, valvular heart diseases, cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease, cardiac conditions due to systemic diseases, echocardiography in heart failure, transesophageal echocardiography, tissue Doppler and strain imaging and evaluation of mechanical dyssynchrony for CRT. Use of echocardiography in clinical patient management will be emphasized.
FOCUS SESSION OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this session, the participants should be able to:
- Utilize Echo and Dopplerinformation for management of patients with various cardiovascular conditions.
- Identify new echocardiographic modalities for clinical use such as tissue Doppler and strain imaging.
- Recognize common and unusual cardiovascular conditions confidently by echocardiography.
